It can be acceded from Colima, by taxi or automobile, either by the Villa de Ãlvarez - Comala road, or by the third peripheral ring, turning right in The Small Dancer Dogs roundabout.
The bus that leads to Comala, leaves the Estación de los Rojos (Station of the red ones) every 15 minutes. You can also aboard it in the bus-stop situated near the Goddess of the Water roundabout, every 15 minutes.
Comala - the place of the comales - is a colorful little town, located only 9 kilometers from the city of Colima. Comala is also known as White Town America, due to the dawn facades of its country houses drawn in clean and exact outline. This characteristic gives life to a panorama of a fantastic aureola in which the red tile roofs, the abundant vegetation and the iron details in a Rangel Hidalgo style create a perfect harmony.
The Beauty of its surroundings and the harmonic set of its architecture would have been enough to assure its fame, but without a doubt Juan Rulfo, when locating in Comala the action of his renowned novel Pedro Páramo, has been the greatest contributor to disclose it.
This region, that complements its beautiful landscape with the majestic Fire Volcano, still preserves that provincial flavor that has given it so much fame. In order to conserve its traditional appearance, in 1988 the Government of the State declared it Zone of Historical Monuments.
In the Main Plaza of Comala you can find hoisted gardens and walks that end at small fountains framing in the center a beautiful Kiosk of German manufacture that dates from principles of century XX. The Portales of Comala are next to it, another one of their attractions where the traditional botaneros are located - typical restaurants - in which when enjoying refreshing drinks, like typical ponche, either grenade, tamarind, peanut or raisin plum, among other fruits, you can taste the varied snack supply: brown sopitos, tacos, sweet enchiladas, ceviche toasts (Dish of marinaded raw fish), just to mention some, and all together with joyful Mexican music with mariachi and norteños.
In the opposite corner of the portales and in front of the plaza you will see the Parish of San Miguel Arcángel, construction of the late century XVIII, that in spite of the constant modifications that have been made to it, it is considered neoclassic style.
The Comala celebrations, are celebrated in the first 15 days of December in honor to San Miguel Arcángel; they make dances, cavalcades, bull runs, mechanical games, exhibitions of crafts, besides mass and praises in traditional peregrinations.
